Departmental Domain Email Service
The Departmental Domain Email Service is a service on the CalMail email system. This service is available to academic departments and administrative units that want to use the CalMail system but retain their own unique domain name (e.g. user@comedy.berkeley.edu instead of user@calmail.berkeley.edu). This service is uniquely suited to departments who are currently running their own mail server and would like to discontinue this effort, but want to keep using their current domain name for email.
These domains will be maintained on the CalMail system, which has 24x7 support from IST. The domains will enjoy the same features as the CalMail domain, which include spam and server side filtering, virus protection and a web mail interface. Additionally, we will soon have a recharge service in place that will allow domain administrators to increase storage capacity on accounts in the domain they manage.
The departmental domain can either be maintained by the CalMail team, or by a designated domain administrator from the department. A domain administrator has the ability to increase disk space allotment; set passwords, vacations, and forwards; and view status for any account in their domain. All departmental domains are also fully supported by the CalMail Consulting staff who can answer questions relating to email clients as well as other account issues.
To apply for a Departmental Domain on CalMail, please go to User and Account Services and download the Departmental Domain Email Service Application. Once the application has been approved, a CalMail representative will call you to start the creation of the domain.
